WORLAND - Worland High School senior Casey Wassum signed her letter of intent Wednesday afternoon to continue playing soccer at the collegiate level for Sheridan College.

Along with continuing her education and playing for a strong program, Wassum chose Sheridan to reunite with former WHS soccer teammates Taylor Fulfer, Shania McGarvin and Hannah Ozmon. The school's size and familiarity of having played in many soccer tournaments in Sheridan itself were also motivations to play for the Generals.

"I liked the idea of going to a smaller school and I also liked the area. I've played a lot of soccer tournaments in Sheridan," said Casey Wassum.

WHS soccer coach Danielle Warren was thrilled for her Wassum, who by the end of her career will be one of more decorated WHS soccer players in school history, and believes she will find success at the next level.

"The cool thing was I got to go to lunch with Hannah [Ozmon] and she raved about coach Mal [SC women's soccer coach Mallery Marshall] and loves what she is doing. I got to go watch her and Shania [McGarvin] play against Northwest and it was a lot of fun to see them and how well they're doing. I'm really excited for Casey, she's going to fit right in there with the other girls.

"I'm excited for her leadership [this upcoming season], she's an All-State volleyball, basketball and, obviously, soccer player. Talking with Britany [Miller WHS volleyball coach], and what Casey was able to do in volleyball was be a great leader. She leads by example and with her voice, she is able to motivate people in a way that others can't. I'm really excited for her to step up as that leader this year as a senior and taking on that role," said Warren.

With her letter of intent signed and the question of where she will be next year answered, Wassum is ready to close out her WHS career on a high note.

"It's been pretty stressful lately to try and figure all that out with going on visits and trying to get scholarships. It's nice to be done with it and know what I am doing next year.

"I am really excited to go play in Sheridan but it's also bittersweet that it's my last year here. I'm excited to see what the basketball and soccer seasons bring this year," said Wassum.
