Hot Springs State Park to auction five bison.

THERMOPOLIS – As part of the annual Wyoming State Parks and Historic site bison sale, Hot Springs State Park and Bear River State Park near Evanston will be auctioning a combined 15 bison, with a deadline for bids for Jan. 3.

"We currently have 16 in our herd, so this will bring us down to 11," said Hot Springs State Park Superintendent Kevin Skates. "We usually use the proceeds to feed and care for the rest of the herd [after auction]."

This year, the two parks are auctioning four heifer calves (minimum bid $1,800), six bull calves ($1,800), two yearling bulls ($2,500), one yearling heifer ($2,500), one two-year-old bull ($3,500) and one 10-year old breeding bull from the Hot Springs herd with a minimum bid of $5,000.

"Bison have been at Hot Springs state Park since 1916, so it's pretty common that we trade with regional ranchers for calves, and have these sales to change the herd up a bit," said Skates.

Bid sheets and photos of the available bison can be obtained from Skates at [email protected], or by calling 307-864-2176.

All transportation is to be provided by the winning bidder. All animals come with vaccination records, no breeding guarantee or warranties are provided. All payment must be by cash or a check drawn on a United States bank.

Bid will be opened on Jan. 4, with winning bidders allowed to pick up their bison on Jan. 8.
