Ten Sleep Council discusses wastewater

January 9, 2018

TEN SLEEP – The Town of Ten Sleep held a work session ahead of their regular monthly meeting on Monday, to discuss a draft letter in an effort to accommodate industrial business within town limits, specifically the Ten Sleep Brewing Company.

Established just outside of Ten Sleep in 2013, the Ten Sleep Brewing Company, looking toward rapid expansion, is considering a move inside the town limits of Ten Sleep, which would require a change to current wastewater considerations for the town, while at the same time bringing needed revenue.

In November, representatives for the brewery met with the Town Council to discuss the possibility, and review the state’s concerns regarding where the brewery would dispose of thousands of gallons of wastewater during the brewing process.

On Monday, the council discussed a letter to the brewing company, detailing a proposal that the if the brewery moves and requires town water and sewer usage, the business will require additional water taps and an exclusive sewer tap for discharge.

The brewery and town are also in negotiation to require pretreatment of wastewater before it is introduced to the town’s lagoon system, which would require holding tanks on the brewery’s behalf.

The council also discussed the possibility of purchasing an additional dumpster (at a cost of $1,000) to handle the town’s overflow recycling of cardboard products.

The town also scheduled a special meeting for Jan. 23 to draw up a mission statement for 2018.
