WORLAND - After a tough loss last week the Worland Lady Warriors soccer team showed resiliency Friday afternoon at Worland High School with two convincing victories to put them in the Pinnacle Challengers Cup semifinals.

The No. 5-ranked Lady Warriors downed Pinedale 6-0 in the first round, and in the quarterfinals controlled No. 4 Douglas on their way to a 2-0 win to set up a semifinal match with the No. 1-ranked Cody Fillies today at 11 a.m.

"We were a thousand times better than we were against Powell. You can see the leadership and the difference it makes. It interesting to me too, girls will come out as freshman and think they're not good but it's amazing what the difference a year makes. Even watching Casey [Wassum] from last year to this year, she's so strong and it makes the world a difference.

"You just go down the line Juli [Warren], Kendall [Wright], Jaycee [Page], Karla [Gaytan], every single girl that's played a few years, you can see the difference it makes. As the season progresses I'm excited to see the freshman progress and take on those leadership roles," said WHS girls soccer coach Danielle Warren.

Senior Casey Wassum scored both of the Lady Warriors goals against Douglas, then two more against Pinedale. Sophomore Kate Wassum had two goals vs. Pinedale, freshman Tymberlynn Crippen scored her first career goal and Elise Washington scored the Lady Warriors sixth goal in the match.

Overall the Lady Warriors play was much improved from their loss to Powell last week, to which Warren credited their improved confidence on the field for the turnaround.

"Tymberlynn was the player of the game today, especially that first game. She came out of her shell and was aggressive and was all over the field. I think she feels more confident in that wing spot than she did at the top position," Warren said.

She added, "The confidence, in general, made a huge difference. Our passes were sharper, we communicated better and they worked together. Even in the snow, they connected with each other on some good through balls."

The Lady Warriors faced the Fillies, 3A's State defending champions, once before on March 23, losing 2-1, and today they will get to see how much they've improved in the two weeks since that loss.

"If we're in it for state we're going to have to play them at some point. We need to work together as a unit, beat them to the ball because if a team out hustles you in soccer, they can beat you, whether you have a better touch on the ball, better skills, or whatever. If you don't get the ball, you're going to lose. So we need to work as a unit and outwork them," said Warren.

If the Lady Warriors win they play the winner of Rock Springs/Star Valley at 2:15 p.m. at Worland High School. A loss to Cody will have them playing at 2:15 p.m. at Worland High School against the loser of Rock Springs and Star Valley.
