WORLAND – Thursday will kick off the Worland High School's two-day drama showcase. The drama showcase will feature two one act plays and a handful of various types of small acting pieces.
Thursday night will start off with the production of "The Diary of Anne Frank." Deprived from its original version to adjust to a time slot of 30 minutes, the play is under the direction of high school senior Rachael Carver. The play features Sullie-Ann Keuntjes as Anne, Emily Bleicher as Edith, Raeth Tolman as Mr. Van Daan, Gabriel Durrant as Peter, Guendylan Byrd as Miep, Abby Burgess as Margot, Nathaniel Nelson as Otto, Addie Carver as Mrs. Van Daan, Nick Bower as Kraler, Andrew Nelson as Dussel and Jack Vines, Koby Tigner and Michael Neufer as the Nazis.
The second one-act play is a student written production titled "The Rings of Life." The play speaks of the troubles and different trials people go through life to face. The cast includes Kevin Abercrombie, Laramie Black, Kaitlyn Bostrom, Nick Bower, Cody Butterfield, Nyah Campbell, Rachael Carver, Rachel Drake, Jade Hefenieder, Dash Lloyd, Elizabeth McIntosh, Jenna McIntosh, Michael Neufer, Avery Oberth, Abby Pfeiffer and Jack Vines.
On both Thursday and Friday between the productions, drama students will also be performing a variety of small acting pieces. These performances will feature duet acting, musical solos, musical duets, group acting and musical groups.
The showcase will help students prepare for the upcoming state drama championship happening Nov. 29 through Dec. 1 in Rock Springs. Worland High School will be facing off against other 3A schools, according to drama coach Rick Dorn.
According to Dorn, the small acting pieces will be faced off with more of a festival style criteria, meaning it will be less competitive and will instead be ranked on a scale. The plays, however, will remain competitive.
Fifty-four students will be headed to state, the same number as last year. Dorn had students begin preparing for state much sooner than previous years. Worland High School will be the one of the biggest schools in attendance.
The performances of the showcases will be on Thursday and Friday, starting at 7 p.m. at the Worland High School's Little Theater. An entry fee will be charged at the doors.
