Betty Louise Evert Richins, 89-year-old long time Worland resident, passed away peacefully after a brief illness at Washakie Medical Center surrounded by her children.

Betty was born in Worland, Wyoming on January 13, 1930 to John Owen and Dorothy (Booker) Evert. She grew up an only child in Worland, Wyoming. She graduated from High School in 1948. She attended Colorado Women’s College for two years before transferring to Brigham Young University. She was the first girl from Worland to attend BYU.

Betty met the love of her life, Robert Harold Richins, at a mat dance while attending BYU. They married on August 25, 1955 in Worland, Wyoming. To this union was born four children, Robert, Kent, Julie, and Scott. Their first home was in Lyman, Wyoming where they both taught in the High School. Betty taught typing and shorthand. After the birth of her first child, she became a stay at home mom. Betty’s husband worked as a Ranger for nine summers in Yellowstone National Park. They lived in a trailer at Old Faithful and at Lake District. She loved those summers.

The family moved to Worland in 1961 and to Billings, Montana in 1965. They returned to Worland in 1973.

Betty lived for her family. She followed her children in all their activities. She was very active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many capacities. Betty was an accomplished pianist even playing for church services at a young age.

She enjoyed knitting, doing counted cross-stitch and was an avid reader.

She was preceded in death by her husband, and parents.

Survivors include her children Robert (Tina), Kent (Rosie), Julie (Ben), and Scott, 17 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 15, 2019 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints with Bishop Charlie Wassum officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church.
