WORLAND – Eloy Madrid Aguilera, 41, appeared in Fifth Judicial District District Court via teleconference on Monday, Nov. 16, to enter into a guilty plea for an armed robbery that occurred on Feb. 13, 2020.

The guilty plea that Aguilera entered into had him plead guilty to count two that was filed against him, , a felony count of aggravated robbery; along with count three, which was a misdemeanor count of conspiracy to commit theft. The felony count carries a minimum penalty of five years and a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison, along with a fine of up to $10,000. The misdemeanor carries a maximum penalty of up to six months in prison.

At the hearing before Judge Bobbi Overfield, Aguilera was sentenced to five to 12 years in the Wyoming State Penitentiary, as well as 30 days for his misdemeanor charge which is to be served concurrently, along with the associated fines and fees. Councils were set to determine time served after the hearing.

Aguilera originally had additional felony counts of accessory before the fact to aggravated burglary, aggravated robbery and accessory before the fact to aggravated robbery filed against them. They were dismissed as part of plea agreement.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, the charges stemmed from an incident with Janelle Lynn Newsted where the two allegedly went to the victim’s trailer and choked and kicked the victim. The two assailants allegedly also had a cordless grinder and a steak knife. The knife belonging to Newsted was found in the trailer after the alleged incident.

After attacking the victim, the two allegedly left the property with two boxes belonging to the victim.
