WHS Speech and debate finishes third at Natrona meet

WORLAND – The Worland High School Speech and Debate team finished third overall in class 3A among those schools that competed in the Virtual Mustang Classic held by Natrona County High School Jan. 29 and 30.
Speech and Debate Coach Rick Dorn noted that they placed third overall among all 3A teams but second among Wyoming 3A teams.
Dorn said that this was the biggest meet of the year besides state which has more schools and less allowed entries among competitors.
Kim Sumida and Chase Johnson led the way for Worland, placing second in cross-examination debate. Sumida also advanced to the semifinals in oratory and extemporaneous speaking.
Jade Hefenieder placed third in humor and advanced to the semifinals in program oral interpretation. Raeth Tolman placed right behind Hefenieder in humor taking fourth place.
Kevin Abercrombie advanced to the semifinals in impromptu and Tate Green advanced to the semifinals in extemporaneous speaking.
The next meet for speech and debate will be held virtually in Jackson on Feb. 5 and 6.
Dorn said that the speech and debate team is starting to look for judges for the annual Worlando Beach tournament March 5-6. Those wishing to judge will need to contact Dorn and those wanting to judge will be able to do so from the comfort of their own home virtually.
