WORLAND - Since the opening season loss to Sheridan, the Worland Lady Warriors soccer team has been working on their offense. On March 30, the Lady Warriors had their best offensive output of the season as they defeated the Powell Lady Panthers 8-0 at Powell High School.

"After the Riverton game, my goal is to get them more offensive-minded and to shoot more," said WHS girls soccer coach Danielle Warren. "That was the most exciting part about the Powell game. We doubled our shots from Riverton just in the first half against Powell. That was our whole goal, to be aggressive and to keep pushing that offensive mindset. It was super fun to see that we can be an offensive team."

Junior Carley Yule led the Lady Warriors (2-1) as they picked up three points in the 3A West standings with the win over Powell (0-4). Yule struck in three goals, the first hat trick of her WHS career. Scoring the other Worland goals were Nayelli Aguayo with two and Yahaira Aguayo, Payton Erlenbaugh and Kylie Warren had one apiece.

The aggressive mindset on offense is exactly what Coach Warren wanted to see from her team.

"It doesn't matter if you're offense or defense everyone's goal is the same, everyone needs to try and score, I don't care if you're a keeper," joked Warren. "That offensive mindset is so important because otherwise, you're just trying to prevent goals rather than scoring goals.

"This is the first year in a while that I've had girls who can move the ball and should be offensive-minded. Most of the girls I have out on the field have played on the offensive side. That just makes us stronger as a team for everyone to understand both sides of the game. The soccer IQ on this team is very high, and they're all working toward the same thing," said Warren.

Warren has also been very pleased with the play of her midfielders Erlenbaugh and Morgan Wagner.

"My midfield is crushing it. Payton and Morgan, side by side, are just unreal together. I've enjoyed watching them play together and figure things out," said Warren.

The Lady Warriors host Mountain View (2-1), one of 3A's newest programs, on Saturday at noon. After losing their first varsity game as a program, Mountain View won their next two games by a combined score of 9-2.

Saturday's matchup will also be a 3A West conference game, and along with picking up another three points, Warren wants the offense to keep improving.

"We've been working a lot more on offensive runs, and that's what we'll keep at during this week. It's a lot more offensive transitions as far as transitioning from offense to defense and defense to offense as quickly as possible as a team," said Warren.
