The Worland City Council approved a new bar and grill license for Hurricane Lanes doing business as Bean and Burger.

The dispensing area will be where the old café used to be, according to Clerk/Treasurer Tracy Glanz.

She said the city still has a bar and grill license available but does not have any retail licenses available.

Under the bar and grill license, sales must be 60% food and the bar must close when the grill closes.

The council also approved on second reading, Ordinance 870 to rezone 1019 Coburn from commercial/business to medium high residential zone.

In other business, Fair Board member Dani Rice asked if the city would again close the cemetery gates for the headlining concert on Saturday, July 29. This year the headliner is Deana Carter. The council agreed to the request with the gates to be locked at 4 p.m.

Rice said having them locked worked well last year, preventing people from sneaking into the concert without paying.

The council also approved allowing the mayor to sign the contract and notice to proceed for the airport pavement and maintenance project. Airport Manager Lynn Murdoch said the runway would be closed for two days during the project that is slated to begin July 31.

During reports, Public Works Superintendent Nick Kruger said the boat ramp is open, noting it was “buried under almost three feet of sand and other weird [river debris].”

He said there has been erosion along the shoreline so residents should be careful. The erosion, he said, would be exposed as releases are supposed to drop to 3,500 cubic feet per second this week from Boysen Reservoir.

Mayor Jim Gill thanked all those involved with the street improvement projects this summer, stating “because I would remind our citizens, that you can’t have better streets without construction. We appreciate your patience. I think you’ll be pretty proud of what you see once we’re done.”

Chief Gabe Elliott said Officer Andrew Cady is leaving for a job with the Wyoming Highway Patrol, but Adam Bankert is expected to begin duties once he is officially discharged from the Marines.
