Worland Mayor Jim Gill notified the city council and others present that former Worland Mayor LaVertha Gotier passed away on Aug. 8.

“She was quite a gal,” he said noting she was one of several people instrumental in getting the initial one-cent sales tax passed and did a lot of things for the city.

“She is gone but not forgotten,” Gill said.

Gotier served as Worland mayor from 2001 through 2004. She later ran for county commissioner in 2006 on the Democratic ticket.

According to a Northern Wyoming Daily News article regarding her commission candidacy, Gotier had a long history of serving the state of Wyoming and city of Worland. She was a graduate of the Leadership Wyoming Class 2022 and an alumni board member, was appointed to the Wyoming Main Street Advisory Board, served on the American Red Cross of Wyoming Board, was active in Rotary, American Legion Auxiliary and Absaroka Head Start Board of Directors.
