Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years

William "Bill" Balwick Bargeron

William "Bill" Balwick Bargeron, 78, passed away April 2, 2024 at the Worland Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

Bill was born in Oakland, California on October 20, 1945, the only child born to Russell Colton Waibel and Nadine Marie Balwick. He was soon adopted by Virgil Sutton Bargeron.

He was raised in Castro Valley, California. Following his high school graduation, he attended Chabot Jr. College during its short duration in Santa Leandro, California.

Bill served his country in the United States Air Force beginning in 1965, serving with the Air Police during the Vietnam Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1968. He was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for outstanding achievement on July 19, 1966, for administering first aid to a two-year-old in a car accident. Bill was able to stop the bleeding from a severe head wound on the toddler, which contributed to the child's survival. 1969 brought him to Torrington, Wyoming and later, Worland, where he remained until his passing. He then pursued employment as a maintenance engineer and later became a locksmith. He enjoyed a combination of these professions for over 30 years.

Bill married Linda Dooley in Cheyenne, Wyoming on August 24, 1967. To this union two children were born, William, Jr., and Dawn. The couple later divorced.

He later met Marjorie Ruth Porter in Worland. The couple married on March 17, 1998. Together they would often be found fishing, hunting and camping. Summertime meant taking the camper up to the Big Horn Mountains. Branson, Missouri was a favorite place to vacation when they were able to travel out of state.

Bill loved dogs! He and Marge operated a kennel service for a few years, but in truth, the dogs did not spend much time in the kennels, because they welcomed them into their home. The couple also bred Pomeranian dogs. Bill kept dog treats in the mailbox out front of their home and anyone out walking their dog was encouraged to take a treat on the way up the road and on the way back!

Bill was a private person, but always willing to help anyone in need.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Marge. Survivors include, his son, Bill, Jr. (Yvonne) Bargeron of Worland; daughter, Dawn (John) Nordin of Camano Island, Washington; grandsons, Logan and Mangus Nordin.

Graveside services will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday, April 10, 2024, with Father Robert Rodgers officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the U. S. Air Force, American Legion Post #44 and the Patriot Guard Riders. Memorial donations may be made to American Legion Post #44 and sent to PO Box 524, Worland, WY 82401.
