WORLAND - Examining bone injuries on a foot is nothing new for the Washakie Medical Center radiology team, but running a 64-slice CT scan on a 150 million-year-old bone was out of the ordinary for the team last Thursday, May 5. The metatarsal fossils are a project of Wyoming Dinosaur Center intern Jackson King. Beverly Ruby Valdez was welcomed home on May 4th of 2022 at the Worland Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on April 14th, 1932 in St. George, Utah to George "Ammon" Stringham and Vilate Stringham. She was the middle child of a total of five siblings. In her teens, her family moved to the windy city of Casper and she met a strapping young cowboy by the name of Robert Northrup Turner and the two married in May of 1950. Catherine JoAnne (Matthiesen) Geary, 78, passed away suddenly, the morning of May 9, 2022 after a wonderful Mother’s Day spent with her daughter, Tracy. Catherine was born on August 17, 1943 in Sacramento, California to James Herbert and Clara Marie (Lockhorn) Matthiesen. She married her high school sweetheart, Samuel Otis Geary, on March 15, 1977 in Worland, Wyoming. He willingly and lovingly adopted her daughter. The family made their home in Worland. WORLAND — Filing period for federal, state, county and local races begins today (Thursday). Locally there are two Ward 1 four-year Worland City Council seats up, currently held by Adam Martinez, who was elected to a two-year term in 2020, and Barbara Brookwell, who was appointed to the council last year. WORLAND — With the Washakie County Fair just over two months away the Washakie County Fair Board is busy working to finalize a schedule and finalize contracts for entertainment. During Monday’s regular board meeting, Chairman Jeff Lapp reported that Washakie County Attorney John Worrall is working with Daniel Kosel to finalize the music entertainment contract. TEN SLEEP – The Ten Sleep school board appointed Shana Harstad to fill the vacant position due to Sarah Anderson's resignation earlier in the month. Harstad will hold the position until the election in November.
