Green Hills Golf Course sees big turnout for Wyoming Men's Senior Tournament

WORLAND – The Green Hills Golf Course was bustling earlier this week as Worland played host to the 57th Annual Wyoming Senior Golfers’ Association Sunday through Tuesday.

Sunday served as a practice round while the tournament took place on Monday and Tuesday.

Worland’s Golf Pro Nick Nielsen said there were a total of 89 participants in the tournament, 18 of those representing Worland at their hometown golf course.

The tournament was for golfers ages 50 and older from all across Wyoming and split into seven separate divisions with each division having gross and net winners. The freshmen division was for ages 50-56, sophomores were ages 57-63, juniors ages 64-70, seniors ages 71-77 and senior seniors 78 and older. Results from the tournament can be seen below.

Overall, Nielsen said the tournament ran pretty smoothly.

“The tournament went pretty well. They played fairly quickly – we tried to get everything scored and have everybody collect their winnings and get them out of town in an orderly fashion because they’re from all over so they wanted to get on the road,” Nielsen said Thursday. “I heard lots of good compliments about the restaurant, the golf course and the pro shop staff and everybody that was working the tournament.

“They spoke very highly of how they thought things went so I think it was a good representation for us.”

Nielsen said the tournament had a positive result not only for the golf course, but for Worland as a whole. Hotel rooms were filled and local restaurants were busier for a couple days as a result of the tournament.

And as for the golf course, it gave a number of visiting golfers a chance to play a course they would otherwise probably never get to see.

“To be able to host tournaments like this is good recognition for Worland and good publicity for us to show we have a good golf course. We want to have things like this come to town as opposed to being exclusive,” Nielsen said. “We want to make people feel welcome to come here. It’s good to get them to come here in play in something like this and hopefully get them to come back.”

Up next for the Green Hills Golf Course is the Worland City Open which will be held this Saturday and Sunday, August 8-9.

It’s an individual stroke play event for men and women of all ages. Tee times start at 9 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday.

Those wishing to play can still sign up by 4 p.m. today by calling the Green Hills Golf Course at 347-8972.

The cost is $40 per person and lunch is included Saturday.
