Hisashi "Sas" Nakamura

Hisashi “Sas” Nakamura passed away at the age of 88 August 7, 2015, while being treated at Kadlec Medical Center in Richland, Washington. Sas was born March 4, 1927 in Powell, Wyoming. He grew up on the family farm in Kirby, Wyoming and graduated from Thermopolis High School. Sas served in the military during the Korean War in the 40th Division 578 Engineering Battalion. A lifelong farmer, Sas developed land in or around the Tri-Cities and Prosser areas since 1959. During that time, he was a member of the Farm Bureau, Gideons International, and was an active church member throughout his life.

Sas was an avid Seattle Mariners fan, bowler (he once scored a 298 game), and golfer. For a time, he raised race horses and piloted his own plane to see them run. He planted a garden every year and enjoyed sharing his bounty with others.

Sas was a faithful volunteer in his local church, a loving family man, and treasured friend of many. He participated in the L.O.V.E. Inc. ministry, among many others.

Sas is survived by his wife Lynn (Fujikawa); children Gary (Clarice), Glen (Leah), Brian (Nozomi), and Julie (David) Glass; 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; sisters Mieco Eyer and Haruye (Mel) Matsuura; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Sas was preceded in death by brothers Kaneo, Tsugio, and Toshiro Nakamura, and sister Matsua (Art) Segimoto.

A visitation time on Friday, August 28 between 4 – 6 PM will be held at Columbia Memorial Gardens , 224 S. 24th Ave., Pasco, WA 99301.

There will be a graveside service at 10 AM Saturday, August 29 at Columbia Memorial Gardens. A memorial service will follow at 12:00 PM at Richland Baptist Church, 1632 George Washington Way, Richland, WA 99354.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Richland Baptist Church designated to the Nakamura Memorial Fund.
