Harriet L. Havens

 

Harriet died peacefully on September 13, 2015 while a resident at Amie Holt Care Center in Buffalo. A Memorial Service will be held on September 16, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church in Worland. Burial of the cremains will take place at 1:00PM at Riverview Cemetery in Worland.

Harriet was born February 15, 1929 in Ten Sleep, WY to Joseph H. and Ella B. (Sweeney) Carrier. She lived in Grass Creek, Wyoming where she met George J. Havens, and on June 15, 1946 they were married in Red Lodge, Montana. George was employed by Marathon Pipeline and was subject to many promotions and transfers. From Grass Creek they were transferred to Frannie, WY; then to Lance Creek, WY; to Casper, WY; to Worland, WY; to Greybull, WY; and finally back to Worland. Along the way they made many great friends.

Harriet worked at Sawyers Thriftway as the produce manager for several years, then at Big Horn Grocery, and at Worland Floral, all in Worland. She enjoyed playing bridge and duplicate bridge. She also enjoyed going to Thermopolis with several friends and doing water workout in the hot springs.

While in Worland, Harriet was very active in the First Presbyterian Church, serving as a Deaconess for several years. The family asks that donations be made to the First Presbyterian Church Elevator Fund, and sent to Veile Mortuary – P. O. Box 349 - Worland, WY 82401.

After George retired they spent most of the summers camping in the Big Horn Mountains, three to four days a week, and then going back to Worland to tend to their garden. Both Harriet and George enjoyed fishing and gardening, sharing their fish and the produce from their garden with friends and neighbors.

Following George's death Harriet moved permanently to Buffalo to be closer to their son Gary and his wife Pat.

She was preceded in death by her husband on February 26, 2010; by her parents; and by three sisters - Judy Spencer, JoElla Carrier, and Betty Taylor, and great grandson Noah Novotny.

Harriet is survived by sons Gary (Patricia) of Buffalo, WY and Randy (Diane) of Montrose, CO, and by her grandchildren Gavin Havens, Brittany Havens Winges, Cherish Novotny, Faith Rodriguez, Alisha Rone, Jeremy Dellos, and Ryan Dellos, and twelve great grandchildren.

Veile Mortuary has been entrusted with the arrangements.
