The Capitol Christmas Tree is coming to Sheridan

SHERIDAN – For more than 50 years, a tree has graced the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol building for the holiday season. The 2015 Capitol Christmas Tree is a 74-foot Lutz spruce, harvested from the Chugach National Forest in Alaska.
Sheridan has been selected as one of 13 community stops along the tree’s 5,000-mile route from Seward, Alaska, to Washington, DC.
The tree and its caravan of caretakers will arrive in Sheridan for a community celebration on Wednesday, Nov. 10, in the north parking lot of the Holiday Inn, located at 1809 Sugarland Drive.
Public events will begin at 8:30 a.m. and include comments from Sheridan Mayor John Heath, an opportunity to sign the banner accompanying the tree, appearances by Smokey Bear and Santa and Mrs. Claus, refreshments, and live music by the Blackwater Railroad band, which is traveling with the tree.
At 10:30 a.m., the tree will depart Sheridan and continue its journey east.
