John Richard Miller

John Richard Miller, 66, a former longtime Wyoming resident entered eternal life on January 22, 2016 in Farmington, New Mexico.

John came into this world on April 1, 1949 in Sioux City, Iowa to John and Dorothy Miller and was the oldest of three siblings. He was Johnny Richard in his younger years. Around the age of 2 the family moved to Rapid City, South Dakota until 1965 when the family moved to Worland Wyoming.

John graduated from Worland High School in 1967 and went on to attend the University of Wyoming and Casper College. Before John could obtain a degree he decided to join the U.S. National Guard. John served proudly from October 1970 through May 1976.

In June 1970, John married Tola Kelly with whom he had three children, Michael, Abby Lynne, and Rick. John and family lived in Worland until 1981 when the family moved to Evanston where Tola and John were later divorced. John married Denice Stark in 1989 and the couple lived in Evanston, WY for 20 years until they moved to Bloomfield, NM where Denice still resides.

John was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing, hunting, golf, and softball. John also enjoyed bowling, traveling – especially cruises. John loved to spend time and entertain with family and friends around the barbeque.

He grew up with a strong work ethic and John spent more than 40 years of his life in the oil fields. John was a drilling operations supervisor for Amoco BP for 25 years starting in 1977 through 2003 before he went into consulting with Tom Nordeen. He travelled extensively to work and supervise which took him to all areas of the world including Asia, Egypt, the North Sea, Scotland, and the Middle East. John’s oil work in the United States centered on Colorado, Montana, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming.

His spirit is carried on through his wife Denice, sister Marge Sanchez, children and their spouses Michael John Miller (Daniel Smith), Abby Lynne Miller (Nic Stark), Rick Daniel Miller (Amber Mathes), Shana Mohler (George), and David “Shane” Mohler (DeDe). His extended family includes nephews Zane and Kim Lennon, Shane and Jess Sanchez and their families and nieces Rozy Castellano, and Sady and Joe Mounts and their family and many friends too numerous to list individually.

He will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He is preceded in death by his parents John and Dorothy, his brother Art and sister-in-law Pam. He will be remembered for his infectious sense of humor and his love of animals.

He chose to be cremated and have his remains scattered at the Lungren Cabin in the Big Horn Mountains of Wyoming, as that was John’s favorite hunting hole.
