Elected officials' salaries to remain the same

May 16, 2018

WORLAND – The Washakie County Commission met for their mid-May meeting on Tuesday, and voted to maintain current salaries for elected county officials, citing overall state budget woes as a reason to not consider raises at this time.

According to Wyoming statute, the board of county commissioners of each county shall meet not later than June 1, every four years, for the purpose of setting salaries. The salaries shall not be changed during the term of each official for whom a salary is determined.

In other business, the commission opened bids for 5-cubic yards of gravel, to be spread on Lower Nowood Road. At press time bids were still being reviewed by county planner David Anderson.

The Public Health Department reported that staff nurses attended Healthy You training in April, which teaches management for sufferers of chronic conditions. The department will offer a six-week course on the subject to county patients this summer.

The department also reported that the health fair for county employees will be on June 15, and notices will be sent by email.

Youth Alternatives reported that they received a $51,000 TANF grant (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families). The grant traditionally helps fund a variety of projects in Washakie County, including Big Brothers Big Sisters, The Worland Youth Learning Center and the after-school program in Ten Sleep.

The county also approved two special malt beverage permits for the Big Horn Bar in Ten Sleep to provide beer sales at the Beauty and Beast and Fourth of July rodeos in Ten Sleep.

FIREWORKS

County Fire Warden Chris Kocher presented the 2018 Wildfire Firefighting Operating Plan, which was approved by the commission, and reported that county agencies were reaching a consensus on dates to use the Worland gravel pit for fireworks over the Fourth of July weekend.

The commission voted to approve use of the gravel pit for fireworks, between June 30 and July 4, with a final date to be determined at a later date.
