WYLC to be taking care package donations

November 6, 2018

WORLAND – Recently, the Worland Youth Learning Center (WYLC) started taking donations for their military care packages that will be going out to an 18 soldier-unit marine base in Kuwait.

This month at WYLC’s parent party, attendees will be writing their own thank you letters to the military. On Nov. 15 from 6 to 7:30 p.m., families will be invited to come partake in a free chili dinner and write their thank you letters. The center requests families to sign up in advance.

The packages are part of the center’s plan to show their thanks this month and will be sending their packages the week of Thanksgiving. The center has dedicated their entire month to thanking the troops. They will be taking donations all month. The letters written at the parent party will be included with these packages.

The center has released a list of items they are accepting for the care packages. These include AA and D batteries, phone cards, hard candies, hard containers of hot cocoa, aspirin, lip balm, powdered drink mix (such as crystal light), gum, granola bars, bars of soap, sunscreen, jerky, soup packets (no cans), feminine hygiene products, instant coffee, card games and head lamps.

According to unit director Ciara Jensen this is not the centers first time showing support for the troops. They put together packages four years ago for a unit in Virginia. This is, however, the first time that the unit will be sending packages overseas.

Jensen decided on sending these packages to Kuwait after noting that the corporal posted on the Army’s national website, along with of others, explaining their story. The unit has currently been there for a few weeks, camping in tents and more often than not, going without electricity. Jensen mentioned the center decided to do this once again due to the fact that they want to support the troops in any way possible.

WYLC will be accepting donations until Nov. 21. Donations can be brought to the center which is located at the Worland Community Center Complex.
