Commissioners hear board updates; library bid opening today

August 13, 2020

WORLAND – The Washakie County commissioners met last Tuesday, Aug. 4 for their regularly scheduled meeting to hear board reports and to approve different forms.

Tom Schmeltzer of building maintenance reported to the commissioners that at least five contractors and a large amount of sub-contractors appeared for the pre-bid conference regarding the construction of the new Washakie County Library. Bids are being received for the project until today, Aug. 13 at 2 p.m. and will then be opened. Bids are expected to be the only item on the commissioner’s agenda on Aug. 18 due to the election.

Schmeltzer also reported to the commissioners that the speakers at the Washakie County Fair worked great that the commissioners purchased, and they have been put away for the winter. Schmeltzer also reported that everyone did a great job cleaning after themselves during and after the fair, except for rodeo contestants.

Schmeltzer reported to the board that there have been multiple problems with air conditioners around the county and was unsure what was causing some of them to continually break down. He reported that Fifth Judicial District Circuit Court’s air conditioner was working after a repair was reported at the previous meeting. Schmeltzer talked with the commissioners about having more communication with him about planned events at the fairgrounds so that he can have more time to prepare the fairgrounds.

Washakie County Ambulance Service Claims Manager Sandy Beck had two grant applications approved by the commissioners regarding equipment and payroll reimbursement to be sent to the Wyoming Office of State Lands and Investments (OSLI). The commissioners discussed whether they would sign the application due to recent confusion regarding whether the state wants counties to submit COVID-19 related spending items as a whole county entity or as individual departments.

Beck told the commissioners the equipment was more pressing to get the grant application signed as they have tried to get funding for them for a long time, but the commissioners ultimately decided to submit both applications prior to the deadline.

A malt beverage permit was approved for the Ten Sleep Brewing Company for Sept. 5.

The commissioners entered into executive session twice for personnel.
