The slimed and the slimers during Ten Sleep's Heart Challenge are (l-r): Olive Truman, Breckyn Dykstra, Emmi Beckwith, Kaitlyn Harstad, Superintendent Jimmy Phelps, Presley Ophus, teacher Desiree' Egger and Emberlyn DuPont.

TEN SLEEP - The Kids Heart Challenge is a fun and exciting event where students learn about their hearts while helping others by raising money for the American Heart Association, according to Ten Sleep physical education teacher Desireé Egger.

According to the program's website it prepares children for success through physical and emotional well-being.

This year Ten Sleep elementary students were fortunate enough to hear from Ten Sleep's own heart hero freshman Elektra Shoopman. Egger said that Shoopman shared a little bit about her own story in hopes of motivating students to participate in the Kids Heart Challenge.

"It was a great reminder for Ten Sleep students that people in our own community benefit from money raised during this time," Egger said.

Ten Sleep Elementary raised $2, 957.21, which happens to be the most money raised in the four years that they have been participating in the Kids Heart Challenge.

This year any student who raised over $100 was rewarded with the chance to slime PE teacher Egger.  If any student raised $200 or more they had the opportunity to slime a "Mystery Person." This year's mystery person was Ten Sleep Superintendent Jimmy Phelps.

"None of this was possible if it wasn't for the teachers, the parents and the community.  Everyone seems to get excited to give back and knowing that they are saving lives is icing on the cake," Egger said.
