Worland City Council approves Halloween road closures

October 20, 2022

WORLAND — The Worland City Council, during their regular meeting on Tuesday, approved a set of road closures for the Halloween holiday.

Worland-Ten Sleep Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Ruth Dugger requested that the city block off the portion of Ninth Street from Big Horn Ave north to the alley for the chamber’s Trunk-or-Treat event. Specifically, the road will be closed from 4 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 31 as the council approved the closure.

Dugger said the chamber has in the past reserved the parking lot between Worland City Hall and the Worland Washakie County Library branch, but with Halloween being on a weekday this year, it was more practical to close the small portion of Ninth Street.

So far, six businesses have signed up to participate in the event. Dugger said more have expressed interest.

Michael Sanchez, Mad Cyclez owner, also requested a road closure at his business on Halloween.

Like the chamber, Sanchez asked to have a portion of Seventh Street closed from Big Horn north to the Alley.

In Mad Cyclez’s case, the road will be closed from 4 to 7 p.m.

Sanchez said they are hosting a Haunted Walk for Halloween.

Worland Police Chief Gabe Elliott said both organizations have done a great job in years past.

OTHER UPDATES

Worland Airport Manager Lynn Murdoch said the airport is moving closer to installing a wildlife fence, but the new gate on the east side of the fence probably won’t arrive until February.

Still, crews will work to complete the fence in the coming month.

Meanwhile, Worland Superintendent of Public Works Nick Kruger told the council that city crews are winding down on getting parks ready for the coming winter.

Park restrooms should all be closed next week.

Additionally, Worland’s road crews have been repairing potholes with asphalt made in-house.

Elliott told the council that police conducted an evacuation drill at West Side Elementary that went “smooth as usual.”
