Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years
Dorothy Lee Murdoch, 78, passed away on May 1, 2023, at Billings Clinic in Billings, Montana. Dorothy was born November 20, 1944, in Worland, Wyoming to Harold Bernie and Lina Louise (Loudan) Miller. She graduated from Worland High School with the class of 1962. Following graduation, she attended Acme Beauty School in Billings. Upon completion of her education, she returned home where she married the love of her life, David Nieber Murdoch in 1964. She operated Dorothy's Beauty Salon for 57 years. She also provided salon services for the Nursing Home in Worland for over 30 years.
Dorothy was always willing to lend a helping hand when and where it was needed. She was also willing to jump into any adventure that Dave came up with, such as raising livestock, Chubby Cheeks Hog wrestling, and Chubby Cheeks BBQ. She loved competing in the Wyoming BBQ and Bluegrass Festival where she perfected her award-winning secret BBQ sauce.
Wintertime brought out her extravagant Christmas displays and her yard showcased the most gorgeous flower gardens in the summer. Family was so very important to her. She loved being needed to help raise her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A McDonald's Happy Meal or ice-cream cone were simple pleasures they shared together. She was always proud of her family, their accomplishments and their adventures.
Weekends at the cabin with family and friends were treasured times. The family hunting season was always a special occasion, especially when she continued to remind everyone that she held the record for the biggest deer! She also would often reminisce about catching halibut and king salmon on her trips to Alaska.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dave and son, Robert. Survivors include her son, Roger (Billie) Murdoch of Dayton, Montana; daughter, Lynn Murdoch; grandchildren: Mikaylynn (Nathan) White, Raylee Salinas (Chris Leyva); great-grandchildren, Robert David, Emmalee, Ryatt and Monroe (who will be arriving soon), all from Worland; brothers, Dean Miller of Houston, Texas, Doug Miller of Gillette, Wyoming; sisters, Shirley Sprague of Concord, California and Alverna (Chuck) Huff of Ten Sleep, Wyoming.
A Celebration of Life will take place later this summer. Memorial donations may be made to the Wyoming State BBQ and Bluegrass Festival and sent to PO Box 524, Worland, WY 82401. Online condolences may be made to http://www.byrantfuneralhomeonline.com.
