Gary E. Hergert

June 22, 2023

Gary E. Hergert, 82, passed away peacefully May 21, 2023 at The Ridge-Foothills in Salt Lake City Utah, where he had been a resident since 2021.

Gary was born April 28, 1941 in Worland to John and Emma (Schmidt), the youngest of eight children. He was raised on the family farm south of Worland, attended Washakie County schools, graduating from Worland High School with the class of 1959.

Gary and Beverly (Michel) were married June 15, 1962 in Ashton, Idaho. He spent many years in the oil fields of Wyoming, owning Gary's Glass in Worland, farming for a time in Basin, but eventually returned to the oil fields. He and Bev relocated many times within the state, forming friendships along the way. He finished his career with BP in 2005 while in Riverton. Upon retirement Gary and Bev returned to their hometown of Worland. Gary and Beverly were members of St. Luke's Lutheran Church.

His hobbies included reading, listening to classical music, at which times his kids weren't allowed to change the channels or stations, even if he wasn't in the house and watching every Western movie known to mankind! Being a farmer at heart he grew beautiful flowers, zinnias and dahlias being favorites. He also grew fruit trees and a bountiful garden in the summer, swearing every year it would be "the last time he was ever doing that," until the following spring...

Dad had a great sense of humor and a strong work ethic which he instilled in us making sure we "earned our salt that day"! He had many witty and profound sayings regarding life's situations, which many if not all hold true, but can't be shared in a public forum! Thank you, Dad!!

Gary was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Beverly, his parents and sisters: Rose (Paul) Grosch, Emma (Ernie) Pribyl, Bernice (Stewart) Van Deusen, Gertrude (Allen) Cannon and Irene (Harold) Fabricius.

He is survived by his children, daughter, Stephanie of Marietta, Georgia; sons, John (Nancie) of Draper, Utah; Jason (Chris) of Evanston, Wyoming; sister, Ann Gilbert; brother, Karl; sister-in-law, Dolores (Bill) Michael all of Worland; and many nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held Saturday, July 29, 2023, 11:00 a.m. at Riverview Memorial Gardens with Pastor Jared Korb officiating. Memorial donations may be made to St. Luke's Lutheran Church or New Hope Humane Society and sent to P. O. Box 524, Worland, WY 82401. Online condolences may be made at http://www.bryantfuneralhome
