WYDOT on Friday announced plans for a $285 million overpass over Jackson Hole's city core, citing long-standing complaints from every driver who has ever passed through the tourist spot.

The overpass would begin near the edge of the National Elk Refuge on the outskirts of town and arch over the city's downtown, allowing drivers to steer clear of traffic snarls and snow bunnies crossing the busy intersections leading into Jackson's core.

The overpass would then merge on Teton Pass Highway just before Wilson.

"If you've ever had to drive into Idaho for a doctor's appointment, then you know why this project is worth it," explained one Riverton resident, who added: "Jackson should have to pay for it, though."

The proposal includes a box-girder-style overpass that would be funded with state dollars, but includes ornamental options, such as crystal-lined lamp posts, that could be funded by Jackson's wealthy residents.

The WYDOT comment period on the $285 million project is relatively short, and ends on Monday, April 1.

HAPPY APRIL FOOLS DAY!!!
