WORLAND — During their monthly meeting Thursday, Washakie County Hospital Board members discussed the ongoing $23.4 million renovation at Washakie Medical Center in Worland and the state site survey which was conducted this week. Surveyors from the Wyoming Department of Health were at Washakie Medical Center for two days this week to review the hospital and the performance of its staff. WORLAND — A Sheridan forensic pathologist testified Tuesday afternoon in the manslaughter trial of Washakie County man Anthony Haire that two of Jamye Don SoRelle’s wounds were consistent with him lying on the ground when he was struck. Haire is charged with manslaughter and reckless endangerment for shooting and killing SoRelle the night of April 13. (See related story p1.) WORLAND —City of Worland officials believe that the Washakie Solid Waste Disposal District dumped unfair fees on the city — and they’re not happy about it. In response to the solid waste removal district establishing tipping fees (See related story, pg. 2.), the city passed an ordinance increasing residential sanitation fees from $15 to $25 per month and commercial fees from $18 to $28 per month. WORLAND — Worland’s aspiring thespians are taking their act to Laramie today. The Worland High School Drama club is headed to the state competition which begins today in Laramie. The club hopes to defend its state title, having won the contest last year. Students will perform a variety of acts and styles, with others competing in costume and set design. WORLAND — City of Worland officials were shocked to learn that the Washakie County Solid Waste Disposal District billed them more than they expected. During its regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday, Worland Mayor Dave Duffy announced that the solid waste district billed the city more than three-times the expected amount. WORLAND — A new wave of phone scams has hit the Worland area. According to Washakie County dispatch logs, three Worland businesses received phone calls Monday from people claiming they were from Rocky Mountain Power and that the businesses’ bills were past due. Larsen’s Bicycle, King’s Carpet and the Sunset Inn all received phone calls from the reported scammers Monday afternoon. WORLAND — With Worland receiving its first major winter storm of the year, city crews also faced their first test in getting the streets clear. WORLAND — As of Nov. 17, Washakie County residents have a new air ambulance service. Washakie County Commissioners approved entering into a three-year, $25,000 contract with Guardian Air Ambulance, a subsidiary of the Air Medical Resource Group (AMRG). WORLAND - The Wyoming Association of Municipalities has named its clerk and treasurer of the year. Of the 99 municipalities in Wyoming, Worland's Clerk/Treasurer Tracy Glanz received the award. WORLAND — Worland is getting a new air ambulance service. Washakie County Commissioners went forward Tuesday with a three year, $25,000 contract with Guardian Flight, a subsidiary of Air Medical Resources Group. The county switched from using EagleMed (now Reach) to Guardian Flight, a subsidiary of the Air Medical Resources Group. The contract with EagleMed ends this month. WORLAND — Tuesday’s conviction and sentencing of Steven E. Fabela, a Worland man who was convicted of second degree sexual assault is being viewed largely as landmark victory for victims’ advocates. WORLAND — A Thermopolis boy who was struck by a freight train in Thermopolis Sunday has been named. Gavin Jacobson, 12, of Thermopolis was struck and killed by a passing Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway train Sunday at approximately 9:38 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Thermopolis Police Department Chief Steve Shay said. Court documents filed Wednesday indicate that Banner Health Corporation and Washakie Medical Center nurse Donna Clothier have settled with Stephanie Anderson for an undisclosed monetary amount in connection with the alleged wrongful death of her husband, Kevin Anderson.
